My house gets very hot in the summer and I was wondering if there was anything I could put in the window?
Question:I need something to block out the sun. I already have blinds up but it lets the heat right in. I wanted to know if there was anything out there that could keep my house cooler in the summer by blocking out or reflecting the sun out. Maybe something I could put in between the window and the screen.

I've got a 10 ft tall window sun side, and what I'm trying is double curtains... Just one curtain has helped already, I hung a white one inside the frame area, and I'm fixing to put up a looong silk one outside.
They do actually make rods that hang two curtains though, think hotel rooms... ;-)
an Air conditioner
Most hardware stores have or can get a window tinting film. You just stretch it out and stick it on the window. It will darken it just a little but keeps the sun's rays out. It makes a big difference.

An awning would help. We had one on our house which had a west facing sliding glass door. It really made a difference and we did not have to keep the blinds shut all afternoon on that door once we got the awning.
my grandma had the same problem i bought her some tinting film and i installed it between the blinds and the window. its pretty effective stuff and when i go to my grandma house, its usually pretty cool in there. the tinting film blocks some sun, but its really effective in keeping the place cool and it also saved my grandma like $30 a month on the bills
go to the home depot, lowes or any hardware store and you can buy this aluminum cover that is for windows or foil paper works too but the cover is better, this also helps reduce the electricity bill. I live in Texas and its hot here all the time and I bought those covers and my house is cold even when the tempature is in the 100's
You can get window tinting or you can purchase insulated curtains.
Double or even triple paned windows can help reduce amount of heat absorbed into the house. Also you can apply a coating to the windows that reflects light away. Try putting fabric curtains/drapes for window coverings. On the outside you can install awnings that provide shade and block sunlight from coming in. A leafy tree can provide shade as well. If you have central heating turn the fan on it will get air circulating, A good ceiling fan set to pull air upward will draw warm air out of the room. If there is a breeze blowing open up windows to get a cross breeze in your house.
Blinds won't do the trick. You need curtains. The thicker the better. I have also heard of people using tin foil in windows to reflect the suns rays. It's cheap and can remove in the fall. Hope this helps and try to stay cool!!
