How can I save on my electricity bill?

Question:This might sound like a silly question, but I want to save on my electricity bill. I open my curtains to use the daylight, but the sun shining in just makes it hot and I think it's defeating the purpose, by making my a/c work harder. What should I do?

Answers:
Change all bulbs to energy saving florescent type, switch off all heavy energy consuming electrical items like heater, iron, air-con, etc. when not in use, TV, fan not much energy consumer but when not in use better switch off, use timers still better..

You can do tons of things.

1) Stop using the AC. Trying using a fan instead. I know its not as good, but the AC consumes a lot of power.

2) Turn of computers and lights when they are not in use.

3) Change all your light bulbs to those energy efficient ones. The spiral looking ones.
Don't leave ALL your windows open, just what you absolutely need for light. If you have central air, see if you can close off the vents in each room, so you are not paying to cool rooms you are not using. If you are using a window unit, try to make sure it is in the room that gets the most use, and use box fans to move the cool air to other parts of your home. And again, close off rooms you don't use so you are not using extra energy to cool them.

Non AC-related tips are pretty common sense, if you aren't using it, turn it off. Also, if you have a washer/dryer use cold water whenever possible and hang your laundry to dry.

If you have to use the dryer, if it is large enough you might be able to get away with drying two loads of laundry in it at a time (I have done that in the past and it actually works..it knocked a few bucks off my electric bill) The dryer will usually use way more power than the washer will.
get some shades. and close the shades an curtains until the sun isnt on that ide of the hosue or apartment.. then open them.. also dont cook or bake while its so hot..do it in the earlky morn or at night after dark..this will help with the heat making it hotter.. also have afan going to help circulate the air.. and start your air conditioning in the early morning before it gets sunny and hot out... this will help the air conditioner not work as hard.. turn the thermostate to 68-70 an leave it there
all thsi helps
