Removing Candle Wax from Carpet without damaging it?
Question:Hi I have no experience with candles so (that's why) I lit a few candles on top of several (4 or 5) sheets of computer paper. At first, the wax didn't go through the papers. But after awhile, some of the wax leaked through the papers and got on my carpet. The wax went pretty deep (it's not only on the tips of my carpet), and I'm about to pour hot water on my carpet to remove the wax. Does anyone know any clever way (including purchasing some cleaning products) to remove the wax from my carpet? My carpet is a color of sand so if it gets ruined (color wise or material wise), it becomes very obvious. Thanks.
Answers:
Get some plain brown paper... an old brown paper bag will suffice. Place it over the wax stain, then place a hot iron on top of it applying pressure for a few seconds...DO NOT MOVE THE IRON AROUND ON IT...
Move the paper over...placing a clean spot on the wax...Repeat this procedure until wax is removed. Just be careful not to put a section of the paper back down that has wax on it. I would cut the paper into squares or sections just larger than the iron. Then toss after each use.
Always use some type of holder for your candles that is non flammable and a little larger than the candle. Even a saucer works...but then you have to worry about removing the wax from it.
Good Luck!
I don't know if this will work in your deal because it sounds like the wax was "wicked" into the fiber. I have cleaned up spilled wax by freezing it with a bag full of ice, then scraping the frozen wax free with a credit card. Fortunately the wax was white and cleaned up OK. If it was colored, the dye may have stained your carpet.
paper towels and a steam iron on top.
Place newspaper onto of the wax and iron over it. The heat will cause the wax to melt and the newspaper will absorb it.
Ice the wax and remove it carefully, heat will cause it to go further down into the fiber.
an old towel and an iron
then discard towel
