How much does freon for a heat pump cost?

Question:i recently had an air handler put in and the serviceman got 5lbs of freon out of the old unit. is the price of this freon enough to worry about ?

any used refrigerant should never be used somewhere else, the refrigerant he recovered will be sent back for recycling, its of no use to him or you, I usually charge a customer for recovering of refrigerant, if he did not charge you then call it equal and dont worry about it!

greg is totally correct...further to that you might want to buy the guy a beer...he recovered the refrigerant with a machine that probably cost him $1000 and didn't piss it into the atmosphere and didn't charge you extra for this service.
