SINGLE PHASE & 3 PHASE... IF YOU HAVE A SPLIT BREAKER BOX ( RESIDENTIAL ) USUALL THEY COME WITH A SEPARATE AREA FOR 3 PHASE, & ANOTHER ONE FOR SINGLE PHASE ( OLD ONES ), NEW ONES COME WITHE SEPARATE BOXES. IT WAS FASHIONABLE TO HAVE A SPLIT ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, WITH A 4 TON A/C UNIT ON A 35 AMP BREAKER. HAD IT & BILL WERE CHEAP.
What do you need 3 phase for in your house? You have single phase now. The cost of having the electric company come in and hang a new transformer for you to run 3 phase will just about knock you out. Plus you will need a new breaker box as you cant use a residential breaker box for 3 phase it needs a 3rd bus bar. Are you talking about a 240 volt outlet instead ? If thats the case as long as it fits inside the box then its fine.
