Does old old wood make noise?
Question:I have an old 50 year old bedroom set handed down to me. Each night in bed I hear noise coming from the wood, like low brbrbrbrbrbrbrrr, eve hear of this? if I tap the place the noise is coming from it stops, then starts up again shortly. Can anyone out there offer me any help with this? I thought it might be termites? But found out they are silent.

woodworm maybe or a very very small woodpecker
um is there anyone else in the house spying or so lol jk yea i think its some kind of terimites um do you no wat kind of wood it is?
wow sq knows wat he is saying lol
It defiantly can be some other kind of insect. You may have to call an exterminator or you can try to 'bomb' your bedroom with pesticide aerosols - remove and expose as much bed frame as you can, but place a cover or old sheet over the mattress. Another way - if you go to a place that sells mattresses and ask them for a couple of the giant plastic bags that the mattresses come in, disassemble your bed frame, place the wood in the giant bag pesticide the bag. Wash well before reuse.
Is this only occurring while you are in the bed? If it is, it is likely the wooden joints rubbing against each other. Raising the humidity slightly will cause the wood to swell making the joints tighter, thus curing your gremlins. Also check all screws, nuts and bolts, and other hardware to be sure everything is tight.
Wood will shrink with age. It looses moisture. As others have said increase the humidity in the room and allow the wood to swell a little.
If it is really old, then you may want to check the glued joints and see if they are loose, and tighten any hardware also. good luck.
Some species of termites do make a clicking noise, usually at night. Look for holes in the wood, fine powder (drill dust) around your furniture.
