My window unit air conditioner makes "crackling" noises...?
Question:I have a small window unit air conditioner in my bedroom and it recently began making "crackling" noises throughout the night. It will be quiet for an extended period of time, then the crackling noises will start and continue off and on for the rest of the night. I cleaned the filter which seemed to help the first time, but the noises have begun again. Does anyone know what is causing this and how to fix it?

Everytime you clean the filter, clean the coils also. The filter might not be picking up all the air garbage, and it's ending up on the coils.
It sounds like it is icing up you may have to clean the coils or it may be low on refrigerant
Clean the filter more often and check to be sure the condensation is draining properly.
