Help! I have mice!?
Question:My house is overrun with mice. I have small children and a dog so I would prefer no poison but I'm running out of choices. Help!
Answers:
Pick up the dog food at night. Get cats. Use snap traps baited with peanut butter along walls, and baseboards, (where dog can't get them). Get a snake for the back yard. (Seriously, catch a non-venomous snake and release it in your yard).
If your house is over run, you are feeding them. Cut off the gravy wagon.
go buy a bb gun and practice shooting with it.
next put some food out and shoot them when the children are not around.
I used the live traps. We found some called "Mice Cubes" that worked very well. Believe it or not, the best bait we found was honey lemon cough drops! Several times we had three in there trying to get the cough drop. There are a couple of things to know about these, though. Make sure to check them several times a day. If a mouse gets in there, it cannot get out. They can dehydrate and die quickly--that is a much more cruel way to kill them than the snap traps. Also, you must take them VERY FAR away from your house to let them go. They were beating me back to the house when I let them go in our back yard! I don't advise using the sticky boards--that is cruel, too.
the sticky pads work great. you can put them under the furniture and in other places. No poison, the dog might eat the dying mice and get sick, even worse, the kids might eat them!.
There are now sonic devices that can be perchased and just plug into a wall socker, they not only get rid of mice they will also get rid of ant's, spiders and other creepy crawles.
Hope this helps

Sonic Devices don't work. View PDF here- http://njaes.rutgers.edu/pubs/publicatio...
You have two options to keep the stuff relatively safe for your kids:
Glue Boards ( http://www.pestprojoe.com/product.php?pr... )
If you use these it is best to spend the couple of extra dollars for gloves as they will keep your scent off of the traps. Then you place a dab of peanut butter in the middle, fold it over and place them in the corners. I would go with the whole box, as you want to make sure you have back ups.
Bait Stations ( http://www.pestprojoe.com/product.php?pr... )
This is nice because it does lock the bait away, making it harder for kids or pets to get to it. You will need to buy the bait with it.
