My plumber left a huge hole in my kitchen, what do I do?

Question:I recently purchased a home and hired a plumbing contractor to come and connect the pipes under my kitchen sink. He said that he would have to re-route the kitchen plumbing to a different plumbing "stack" in the basement. The problem is that in doing so, he completely ripped out the wall behind the kitchen cabinets in order to install the new pipes. Now I have nice new pipes and a huge hole in my kitchen wall. Should I request that they fix it or do I need to hire someone else to repair my wall? And what type of company would I call to fix this? I only have two weeks left before my new occupancy inspection... please HELP.

Answers:
Contact the plumber and ask what his intentions are. If he was going to do this, he should have said up front how he would have to open the wall, and who would repair it. He will probably say he doesn't repair walls, and you will need a handyman to repair the hole. good luck!

Drywall contractor or handyman. Check yahoo local, they'll show you where the closest ones are. The cheapest should be an independent handyman.

Good Luck!
sue the pants of him
ok measure the hole in the wall ,go to home depot ask the person to help you ,i think he will recomend you to get plaster of paris ,either 2by4 or 2by2 wood planks, screws, gybroc or plaster wall, and tape, white or colored primer paint.enjoy the repair
Most plumbers don't do wall repair. Some have a contractor that does the work for them but if it wasn't in the contract, it will be up to you. Call a drywall or carpenter contractor.
plumber should have sent someone else in to repair it or did it himself...he wasnt a pro
i am a contractor they should fix it since they did it.
So far, what is wrong is lack of communication.

In New Mexico, a licensed plumber can put back what he has to tear out as long as it does not cost more than 50% of the total cost of the job to do the wall repair.

Here is what he should have done;
As best he could, he should have cut out so it could have been taped or nailed back the pieces.
Or he should have covered the hole/holes with cheap paneling, or something.
People usually don't care if it's not that great a job under a cabinet where it'll not be seen.

Or he should have let you know, so you could arrange to have it done.
People don't like to pay the price they have to pay a plumber to plumb.
They really don't like paying that same wage for wall work.
So cover it up fairly quickly----is what we as plumbers have to do.

Anyway, he should have asked you what you wanted to do concerning wall repair.
pay by check everytime :D call them up, tell him to fix it otherwise you'll cancel the check, they'll be back in no time!

its their responsibility to fix something they have damaged.
