Hot water switch, is it more economical to leave on constant or left on timer??
Question:There are 2 of us most of the time (other than that 3 when we have students), however, we still have an old back boiler & I am consicous that its not very energy efficent as the newer boilers, but is it better to leave hot water on constant??
Answers:
unless you are gone for several days yes, it requires more energy to reheat every day than it would to let it run
It costs more to heat up from cold every time than to keep warm, turn the cylinder stat down to reuired teperature at the tap and you won't have to put cold water in the water you just paid to heat up. A back boiler may be 76% efficient at best, the system efficiency will depend on lagging etc, a condensing boiler is at least 90% efficient if 'A' rated.
A heavily debated subject, but if you dont use much hot water,
you can just turn it on 1/2 hour before taking a shower and then turn it off and I think you would come out ahead. For more information on appliance repair, go to http://appliancequickfix.com/
Yes, it is better to leave on then shut down. With a older boiler, it is harder for it to recover from a turn down period than the newer style condensing boilers out today.
hi,if your talking about a solid fuel back boiler then by leaving the hot water on the fuel could last longer as by the boiler haveing to heat an extra amount of water would be making the back boiler cooler,in turn not heating the fuel hotter so not burning quicker.
i have an old back boiler too and i have mine on a timer to come on an hour before i usually have a bath and to go off an hour after so it's only on for about 2/3 hours a day & i never run out of hot water because it stores hot water in the tank any way!
