Noisy A/C Units Outside My Apartment - Can Noise Be Muffled?

Question:The are 3 A/C units right outside of my apartment. They are extremely noisy. I can barely fall asleep at night because they are lined in a row next to my bedroom wall. They take turns turning on and off, and they sound like airplane engines are right outside of my bedroom wall.

Is this type noise in violation of the city codes? Is the leasing office obligated to tone down the noise? Is this problem fixable other than replacing the units?

Answers:
Common problem for apartments. Usually after one lives there for awhile, they get used to it and don't even notice it anymore. When we convert apartments into condo's and there is nowhere else you can put the units, we put a 6' high privacy fence around them with a gate. It doesn't stop all the noise, but it sure cuts it down quite a bit. But to answer your question, no it's not in violation of city codes and the leasing office isn't obligated to do anything about it. Why don't you try a sound generator or radio with running water or something like that for your nightstand? It might help.

This is quite common for AC units in an apartment complex. I would complain to the office however the only way to fix this problem is to move either the units themselves or for you to move.
what is A/C ? more noise from inside the wall came from pluming because have air inside trapped, give me more detail? close to any equipment? or any pluming? upstairs you have washroom? electronic mostly do not make sound but if you should call professorial guys
ear plugs
I had the exact same problem when I lived in a ground floor apartment. I slept with a pillow on my head.

It's not a violation and the apartment owners are not going to replace $2000 AC units for your comfort. Perhaps you can request another apartment.
