The rubber thing is most likely a fernco coupling. If you're looking to buy sch 80, try a real plumbing supply house like GPS or West side. I'm in Jersey so these places may be in PA as well. Just keep in mind that they will only sell them in 10ft lengths.
You can either go to a plumbing supplier (they can order one or prob have it in stock) or use an internal expansion flange. It has a large rubber gasket on the flange that inserts into the pipe and enlarges as you twist it in. The internal flange reduced your opening from a 4" to a 3 1/2" but, I've used them serveral times and never had a problem with clogs or blockages. Home depot sell the internal expansion type.
Go to a real hardware store. Lowe's and HD are notorious for limited selections.
its sounds like you have a cast iron pipe or maybe a lead pipe the rubber gasket you have is meant to put a small peace of pipe into a larger one, its tough getting that pipe in tight ,try lubing rubber with toilet wax and force the 40 in hope this will help you
