Why is a thermal cut out failing on an Admiral Dryer?
Question:I have a thermal cut out on an admiral dryer. It sits in the column that contains the heating element. (top) . I have replaced the termal cut out but it only lasted a few days.
Any ideas on why two would die in a short period of time>
Answers:
the cycling switch(thermostat) is bad.. this will be located close to the exhaust vent and detects the working temperayure of your dryer...If this goes bad and allows the dryer to get to hot ...the thermal cutout will fail...this should have been changed when you changed the thermal cutout
Because the item is doing it's job of preventing a fire caused by over heating! Check the lint screen and the hose or pipe going out. If it is kinked or clogged it will cause a build up of lint and block the exhaust, causing overheating. Never ignore a safety feature! Find oy WHY it is kicking and fix the real problem.
The thermostat is bad... Any time you need to change the thermal cut-out, you should change the thermostat... If the thermostat stays on, then it gets too hot, hence the thermal cut-out stops it from causing a fire. Sometimes the thermostat seems to work, but the MFG recommends changing it, and that's the ONLY reason that a thermal cut-out will KEEP going out!!!

Check your venting but also check the dryer itself. This type of dryer is notorious for building up lint in the ducting on the front panel just before entering the blower, restricting air flow. You can use a flashlight to look down the venting after removing the lint screen to see how bad it is. You should remove the front panel to clean the lint out. The thermal kit you are getting should contain three thermostats. They replace two on the dryer around the heating element. Read the instructions carefully because one of the t-stats are used in a gas dryer.
