I want to paint a roof over fiberglass shingles.?

Question:I live in southern California where the sun shines over 300 days a year. I have a roof surface covered with fiberglass shingles. The ceiling and roof are the same installation and there is no room for insulation between them. When it is hot outside the roof radiates heat inside. The shingle are a medium gray color. I want to paint them white, hoping to reflect the heat. What kind of paint can I use and how long will it last?

I thought you were kidding when I read the question, so I looked at your profile. Yes, you do need some relief from the heat. Your questions are obviously a product of a fevered brain. If you have the clearance, you might try a suspended ceiling on the upper floor of your home, or installing fiberglass or styrofoam batts on the ceiling on the inside.

I have never heard of any paint that you can paint on fiberglass shingles as they actually have granular substance "glued" to them (fused on the asphalt base). I wish you the best of luck if there is a product out there I hope someone tells you about it.
I would use the same silver/white paint roofers use to paint a flat roof. It's a silver, mixed with fuel and then painted on. It turns out a silver/white. I've done it in "the business" in Vegas on mobile homes to ward off the heat from the suns rays.
I believe you can purchase it from Home Depot.
