Problem with thermostat? HVAC? Help Please!?

Question:I installed a new programmable thermostat last December and it was working fine. Turned heat on and off during winter. I switched to cooling once it started getting hot and it also worked. I turned the thermostat to off when the weather was nice but now when I try to turn it to cool it does not turn on the air conditioner. I tried to turn the heat on and turning the fan to on instead of auto and it did not work. How can I check if this is a problem with the thermostat? Or is there something else I should try? Thanks for your help. The thermostat is a Hunter Model 44360.

Answers:
The thermostat is powered from a transformer that runs off 120 volt. Check the circuit in the furnace area. There should be a switch (looks like a light switch) to control power to the transformer. It is probably off.

could be a little defect
If you tried the fan switch, and the unit did not come on, it could be a breaker at the indoor unit, or a simple on/off switch. Some installers use a simple light switch to control power to the unit for servicing, look to see if the indoor unit has power. Your Thermostat may have battery backup, and the power loss from the transformer is not showing up. Do you have a A/C alarm? This is telling you that the alternating current is out, not that the air cooler is not functioning.
