Question:Are walls that separate you and your neighbour must be constructed with concrete or is drywall okay? (For a condo located in the City of Toronto Ontario Canada.)

The code demands that fire separation and sound attenuation meet certain criteria (figures not handy at the moment). This can be achieved with a dry wall solution but you should still expect to have good sound insulation between you and your neighbour.

If you are tapping the wall and getting a dry wall board, it may be simply that the block wall or concrete wall is dry lined rather than plastered.
