Need help fixing washing machine?

Question:My Whirlpool washer stops during cycle when it reaches the drain part. It drains when I put it manually at the drain "dot" on the dial ( in another cycle). So it is not clogged. Just won't drain automatically during a cycle. Can anyone help me? I hate to pay $200 for a repair when I can maybe do it myself.
Thanks!

Your timer is shot. This is an easy replacement but may not be so easy on the wallet. Some timers run upward of $100-$150. On an average they are $65-$85. They simply plug in with a wiring harness and 2 screws.

Depending on the age of the machine. Make sure you are making an economical choice in repairing the machine. There are some very nice machines at home depot for around $200-$300.

To get an idea of cost for your machine, you can go to www.sears.com and click on the 'parts' link on the left. Punch in the model # of you machine and look at the exploded diagrams until you find the part # and picture of your timer. Tell it to add that part to your shopping cart and you will get an instant price (and manufactures part #) for the item you need.

Take that information to your local appliance parts supplier. They are normal 20% cheaper that sears parts on line. If you don't have a local supplier, you can just order it there and have it shipped to your door.

Good luck with your repairs and HEY!...don't forget to unplug it before working on it.

the timer is gone, you can fix it yourself for probably half the cost if your handy at taking things apart
sounds like the pump or the timer
I don*t know much about washers but it sounds like it may be in the dial part if you can manually move it to drain.
Call the mfg. or go on line for the troubleshooting and see if they can give you some idea of how to fix it.
Maybe put some WD 40 on the dial?? Could have a little piece of fluff or lint stopping the dial from moving forward on its own?.
Yeah, its the timer. To replace,Unplug it first, if it has the rubber grip knob push the knob in to lock it into place then turn knob counter clock-wise to remove & uncover 2 mounting screws, remove screws. To open panel remove 1 screw on each side which hold front of panel to cabinet, then grab both sides of control panel, pull bottom of panel forward & up then the top backside will hinge. Fold it over, it can rest in the fully hinged position for service.Quick connect wiring makes it a cinch to unplug & plug in the new.
