URGENT!! How do I know if there is a natural gas leak?
Question:This is unbelievably urgent. I smell something similar to rotten eggs, but I'm not sure if it is a natural gas leak. Can someone please help? What are the dangers and what should I look for and do? Just any information but QUICK.

Stop typing and get outside and call the fire department. I can't believe you are taking the time to ask this question..
Faithplus1... are you still there. Damn! Lost another one too asphyxiation.
So how's everyone else doing today?
You should call the fire department if you are this worried..propane stinks like rotten eggs.
If you suspect a gas leak, leave the house and call the fire department. They will contact the gas company. if you have propane make sure you tell the fire company that. Leave now, gas is toxic and call 911
My cousin works at a local natural gas place. She said that natural gas does not have a smell so they put something in it that smells like rotten eggs so you would know if you have a leak. You need to shut the valve off and call the utility dept! They should have someone on call 24/7.
Call your utility or fire dept right away! Do NOT take any chances...
It could very well be a gas leak. Do not even turn a light switch off when you are exiting. Call the gas company from your cell phone, outside of your house. They can come pressure test the line to check for a leak. We had that done years ago, ended up having to have the plumber search for a leak for hours. Our neighbors smelled it more than we did, guess we just got used to the smell. The gas company told us it was incredible that our house did not blow up, it was that bad.
Open ALL windows and doors fully. Air thoroughly. Do not turn on switches such as a light switch until thoroughly aired.
If smell is bad/strong, definitely leave house BEFORE calling your local gas company and/or fire dept. There are gas pilot lights under each side of a gas stove's burners plus one in broiler or oven of gas stove. Some furnaces and some water heaters have pilot lights if they are run by gas. Could also be leak in gas pipes which could be either in or outside of house.
well first don't panic, take a bucket with water and soap mix and go find the leak if possible. Don't turn on anything!! once leak is located turn off the nearest valve feeding it. Fix yourself or call a plumber. Settle down not that big of a deal.
There will be a smell like rotten eggs, if you smell this call the gas company immediately and leave the area, you may also want to call the fire department, ask the gas company when you talk to them. If there is no answer or emergency number for the gas company, call Fire Department.
Most gas companies put something in there gas to make it smell like rotten eggs so the customer will know if there is indeed a gas leak.
