Toilet trouble!?

Question:After I flush the toilet the pump continues to run. How do I fix this? It can be very annoying to listen to.

Answers:
You may need to check the air pressure in your well tank. They have a cushion of air in the top of the tank so that when you pump runs it compresses the cushion of air and then later when you run water it can run without the pump running. If the cushion of air is low or gone, whenever you run water the pump will need to run. To check the air pressure you first must drain all the water from the tank. If you don't this will give a false reading. Next you unscrew the cap off the top of the tank. It looks like the cap for the air fill on your tires. The air pressure should be 5 lbs. below the low pressure setting of the pressure switch. If it's not you can add air like you add it to your tires. You also check the air pressure with a tire gage. When you are done, just put the cap on and turn on the main water valve again. It will take a few seconds for the tank to completely fill.

Your pressure switch on the pump is sticking. You need a new switch.
