There is water on top of my septic tank lid, when i lift the deck that covers it, I can see 2" of water?

Question:we had it emptied 6 weeks ago and occasionally i smell it, what should i do

Answers:
Sounds like either your ground is saturated or your leech field is clogged up. How old is the septic field? Do you regularly add enzymes to the system?

Start by pumping it out then add a couple packs of enzymes. You can get them at most hardware stores. Ideally you should add a pack every couple months to keep the system working properly. They are designed to be flushed down the toilet. The packet disolves so you don't have to touch anything. The solid waste is broken down faster by the enzymes and you don't get clogged up systems.

Of course, you may just be over taxing the field. Was it designed for the amount of people using it? To ease the burden (and save on watering), you can plug the tub when showering and pump the water onto your lawn. You can buy a cheap pump that hoos to a drill and garden hose for about 20 bucks. Take tips from drought areas and you will help your system. Low flow shower heads, reduced flush toilets, only flushing for #2 etc.

The more water you put in the more water has to leach out. If you get more in than can flow into the ground, you get what you have currently. Overflow.

call to have it emptied.
