Why doesn't my washing machine drain water?

Question:I open the lid hours after starting the load and the tub is still full of water. I set the dial to "rinse" and "spin" but nothing is happening. I don't hear a click or the pump. Pump problem? Switch problem?

Answers:
a few possible reasons...1 bad lid switch..2 bad pump...3 bad timer.4 on some machines the pump has it own motor and this could be bad...5...on older Ge machines the pump mounts directly below motor and has a clamped on drive that could be bad...6 somthing has line stopped up around pump...

It could be many things, one thing you can check and fix yourself though is the belt. Remove the back and see if the belt is okay, if not replace, if it is, it's probably pro time.
sounds to me that the solenoid to start emptying the water into the pump is bad, the pump always runs off the main pulley,,
