How do you remove hard, crusty tape residue from a vinyl or plastic surface?
Question:I removed some duct tape, and the top part seperated off. The sticky stuff is left, but has hardened. There's also this stringy material that I think helped hold it together. Anyway at all to get rid of this?

I personally wouldn't try acetone on the plastic. There is a great chance that it will ruin the finish of the plastic. The first thing I would try is WD40. Spray some on the glue residue and let it soak. Then use a plastic scraper to work the crud off. This will have less of a chance screwing up the finish.
use acetone but don't use a cotton ball, instead use an old shirt or cloth, otherwise, the cotton ball will also stick, make sure you soak the piece of cloth very well.
i would use Isopropol alcohol, as Acetone can eat up most plastics,,
Goo-gone or acetone (fingernail polish remover) but test it on an inconspicuous area first (it can leave it a hazy mess!)
There this liquid called Goo Gone or Goo Be Gone (in Wal-Mart, etc.) that works wonders. I just cleaned gum off my car exterior.
if the acetone (nail polish remover) doesn't work, try cooking oil, rub it in with a cloth and the residue should wipe off.
i work in the schools, and we do come across this problem somtimes. what we have learned to do is to soak it in wd40 for a while, and scrub it with a dampened rag . (window cleaner works best) uyou may have to do this a few times, but it will eventually come clean!
try Gu Be Gone at hardware store.
wd40
DO NOT use acetone. It will melt the plastic or vinyl.
Use WD-40 spray and let it soak. It will release the adhesive without damaging the surface. Use a plastic spatula to scrape the residue away.
Try using a citrus juice such as lemon if you want a natural solution. The citrus acid will soften the tape gum enough to be able to wipe the residue away without being too harsh on the plastic/ vinyl.
I hope this helps.
Try coating it with goo -gone it might take a few times but goo -gone is the best. Saturate it then rub it off.
Have you tried rubbing alcohol or lighter fluid?
try Goo Gone.
