How much can your house voltage vary and still be ok?
Question:
Answers:
normal household voltage is about 240 at the main 120 per phase it can go as low as 105 or there abouts but that is cutting very close it should not vary a large amount you will notice you lights getting dim the lower it goes and will burn up appliances call you power co and have them check the voltage at the taps on there transformer this happens sometime when a transformer is about to go bad
Or a part short in the line coming down from the power pole from the trans (service drop if its a over head service .
if its underground anything on the line side of the meter should be the power co problem call them and find out
Plus or minus 10%. So, about 11 or 12 volts. If it drops below say 106, you want to be really careful about running things on long extension cords. The voltage drop is even more causing motors to burn up and wires to heat up. Good luck.
'Rule of Thumb', 10%
Generally it can vary more than 10% even right from the power company's transformer. This is why you see everything rated for voltages starting at 110 all the way up to 125. if you're within those two voltages you'll be fine but if you're higher or lower you'll want to get an electrician out there to check for a loose neutral and if he doesn't find one then it could be the power company's fault. Good luck
