Installing 24 ft. above ground pool this summer!?

Question:Would like to know what chemicals are absolutely needed to keep it clean for the summer. How much and how often? Pool stores want you to do this and this and this and this, etc. Don't really feel like giving them all my money this summer. What can I get away with for the summer and still be clean and swimable?

Answers:
I have a 27 ft x 52" deep, about 18,000 gals of water, I use 1 lb of chlorine a day and run my pump for 3 hrs a day. If my walls or floor feel a little slippery I add one gal. of algacide, if it starts getting cloudy I add a gal of shock or double up on the chlorine. Add a stabilizer at the start of your season IT WILL help with the consumption of clhorine, I use the strips to test my water but not often, as long as it's crystal clear I just rely on sight, Good luck and have a great swimming season

You must have chlorine. I use chlorine and shock treatments. It seems to need less chlorine if I use the stabalizer, but I don't use it all the time. I add the chlorine about every 2-3 days and shock once a week. Seems to work for me.
