My fridge freezer won't get cold enough. Any simple remedy, other than a new one?
Question:Opened my freezer a couple of days ago and noticed an ice pack had slipped down to a position where it may have been interfering with the door seal, although if so it was minor. Nothing is frozen in my freezer, the fridge doesn't seem as cold as it should be. The air blowing into the freezer is cold but not as cold as it probably should be. It's been 24 hours and still no ice cubes etc. Could it simply be dusty condensor coils?
Answers:
When a door is open on a freezer, warm MOIST air enters... the moisture freezes on the evaporator coils ( the place where ALL cooling takes place) . When these coils are packed with ice, the air flow is only 32 deg., the temp of ice.
Empty the freezer & fridge, turn the unit off, leave the door open for 24 hours, to let all the ice melt off the coils, then turn it back on & make SURE the doors are closed well. You will know that this was the problem in about 3 hours, when the freezer is back at normal temp..
Be sure to put some towels in front of the unit, and also inside the freezer when it is off, as you may have more water (melted ice) than the drain pan can handle..
18 yrs home appl. repair....
Before you jump into any conclusion and start repairing for anything can you check if it is temperature rate as in you check if the meter is in min,mid or maximum if it is not that one then look for a technician.
clean dust from coil, turn to coldest setting, wait 24 hrs,if not frozen, call tech
You're probably right, clean around coils, and compressor ,and see what it does.
Dont bother to guess. Go directly to http://appliancequickfix.com/ and see just how your fridge works and what to check. If the panel in the back of the freezer is not frosted up. Check to see if the condenser fan in the back is running. Take it from there.
