My refridgerator won't stay running!?
Question:When I plug my fridge in, it works fine for about 4-5 hours, (cooling, and fans coming off and on) then it will trip the GFI circut. Every time I try to plug it back in, it will trip the GFI. But if I let it sit for a day it will work again for 4-5 hours. It worked fine, then it was unplugged for about two weeks, and it was moved from from a different state. There is no damange on it, but I do not know how it was handled durning the move. Also the thing is only 3 years old. Please help
Answers:
Does it have a fan underneath it? If so, is the fan running when the compressor is on? Something may be stuck in it, causing the heat to not dissapate, and when the compressor overheats, the unit can trip a ground-fault outlet.
Also, try plugging it back in after about 4 hours... if it runs, the start components may be bad. 3 yrs is out of warranty for all parts other than the compressor itself, but since it cools, the compressor itself is still good...
18 yrs home appl. repair..
a guess...as it heats up over the use time, the compressor or fan increases resistance due to a mechanical fault and then trips the breaker. after it cools and contracts the metal, the fault is gone.
guess you won't have to run to far to catch it!
Try plugging it into another room with an extension cord and if it works ok, your GFI is too sensitive. (I think)
