I've a squirrel stuck in my fireplace. It must have fell down my chimney. How I can I get him or lure it out?
Question:I have a two story house. So it must have fell when on the roof. I believe its a pregnant female but I have nothing to really base that off of.
Answers:
If it's stuck above the flue, it probably can't get up the inside of the chimney if it wanted and if you open the flue, it's in your house. HMmmmmmmm !!
You might take off your chimney cap if you have one and put a log stick down there for it to crawl out of. This worked for a raccoon that got stuck in a Dumpster. If it doesn't go right away, bang on the flue to scare it up the chimney.
After it's out, put screening on your chimney cap or get one if you don't have one to prevent any other rodents from entering.
You what?
Surely a squirrel would either scramble back up again and out, or be out of the fireplace and racing round the room.
Unless it's not an open fireplace.
Does your flue go straight into a woodburner or other kind of stove? In which case your squirrel would be pretty squashed in!
And possibly cooked . . . . .
Is your Damper closed? If so, open it and it should run out and into the room. Then open your back/front door. Maybe entice it with some cashews/nuts.
Now if it won't come out, you might have to call animal control and let them handle it.
call the animal squad they will remove it.
Maybe try lowering a small basket on a rope down the chimney. It would have to be small enough for the squirrel to get inside the basket and then pull it up
Try putting some nuts or corn in the basket to lure her into the basket.
Maybe some kind of a long tubular shaped basket?
