Woodpecker in my fire chimney?

Question:Ever since I've moved in i have had a woodpecker pecking what sounds to be the inside of my chimney or the roof. i have fake owls but i am deadly afraid of heights and so i havent been able to place any on the roof. i dont want to kill the bird or harm it, is there any thing i can do to make the bird go away?

If you just build a small fire to smoke him out it probly wont harm the bird , after you know he is out install a chemeney
cover so this wont happen again.
