Plumbing Problem?

Question:A few seconds after I shut off the kitchen faucet I hear a noise in the basement. It is a noise that last a few seconds then goes away. Only happens after you shut off the faucet. Noise sounds like somone is blowing a horn. Any suggestions?

Answers:
Hard to say on what little info you give. Is your water heater in the basement? Check the pressure relief valve (pop-off valve) to see if it is releasing water. When you turn off the faucet, the pressure changes (rises) rapidly. If the T and P valve (another name for it...temperature and pressure) spring has weakened. it could allow water to escape under pressure, until it stabilizes. Check other faucets also, (washers) and expansion valve (traps air to stop hammering sound when pressure in the system changes) if one is installed in your system.

you have air in your system.
any time you here noises with h2o lines, something is restricting the water flow
