I just got a 5 gallon galvanized cooler (the one you put water in) and need to know what to used to clean it?

Question:this was acquired from an auction, and I dont know what was in it, and I heard that it will get a film on it so i need to know whats safe for me to use to clean this with so that I can start putting water or lemonade in. Thanks

Answers:
a mixture of vinegar and water. Lemonade is an acid and will eat away at the galvanized finish inside the cooler and poison those who drink it. use water only

Scrub it out with hot water and regular household baking soda with a stiff bristled brush. After it comes clean rinse it with water. Then fill the entire cooler again with baking soda and water and let it soak for an hour or so.This will not only clean it but it will neutralize any smelly residue or leftover odors left in it previously. This will also work on plastic coolers as well, but this is the best way to clean galvanized / metal liner ones! Have a great day!
