If it rained really heavily, street drains flood up, how to stop water getting in house?
Question:Yep; I know this has happenned recently to lots of people in the recent no-stop rain we're having... awful tbh... but thankfully not to me woot!
I couldn't cope with water rising up against my home then the level rising and it making my first floor of house a flooded sewage hell. I don't live in flood plains but can imagine one day the street drains getting deluged with water from violent heavy rain.
How could you stop or divert the water... is their anything clever you could try and do to stop it? I've not got space to store loads of sandbags. What would you do? Just succumb to it?
Answers:
If flood water starts coming into your house, start flooding your house with clean city/well water. Your house will still be flooded, but equalizing the pressure will keep most of the dirty water and silt out.
im not real experienced in this but make sure you have good drainage i guess.
it also depends where u live but if the street is on a angle my neighbour once was close to havin water come into his house so he busted a hole in our fence and it poured straight into my yard :0 not good at all but luckly i had good drainage and it wasnt a major issue.
Not much you can do water will get in wherever it can. Sandbags will stop water getting in obvious places like door ways but that's only really effective for a small amount of water which will go quite quickly. The recent floods have been over a few days so water has got in through air bricks, around door seals, under garage doors, window frames etc. If the drains are blocked the water backs up through the plumbing as well so toilets and sinks can overflow in the house.
Best to make sure you have really good home insurance.
i live in a unit two streets from the water on the ground floor so if we flood we lose everything! i'd put all my irreplaceables up as high as i could and hope i don't wake up sunk!
If the water level reaches a point where your floor is lower than the flood water then definitely there is no way that your house isnt gonna be flooded no matter how many sandbags you put around your house..water will still sip in unless ofcourse you titly seal your house with concrete :) as long as there are cracks in your walls, spaces in yore doors or windows water will definitely sip in...So no when the floods come i think water in your house should be the least of your problems..your priority is your safety and stay on an elevated place like your second..Floods are unpredictableand can be very deadly..they can even wash away a whole house..
I saw this earlier so much useful advice here well worth a look http://uk.biz.yahoo.com/29062007/389/cop...
street drainage is the responsibility of the city. Complain alot !!
an easy and cheap option would be to use sand bags.
