Hayward pool heater makes metal clanking noise when ignited?

Question:I have a Hayward H100ID1 H-Series pool heater. When the heater is not running (water still travels through heater) no noise is present. When the heater ignites, it sounds like a piece of metal is banging around in the heat exchanger or copper piping. I have disassembled the pool hoses and did a visual inspection...nothing (free flowing metal) out of the ordinary is visible. Any suggestions or assistance is appreciated.

Answers:
Do you think the noise may be from the piping expanding from the heat of the fire. It would sound like a poping. Check the hayward web site, it may help.

sounds like rust,is present in your heater, you need a strp down and remove this rust asap
