I am putting a a/c unit in and it runs on a 220volt how far does it have to be from my 110 outlet?

Question:

Answers:
it can be placed right beside it ..you could even have a double box with both a 220 volt plug and 110 volt plug in the same double outlet box...

wont work,, 220 isnt 110,, 110 is half the circuit,, you need two circuits, ,you need to run new wires from the fuse box,
You have to run a 220 circuit from your electric panel to the unit. You can use awg 12-3 wire. up to 75 ft from your electric panel.
Since your 110 circuit will be totally independent from your 220 circuit (totally separate wiring etc.) there is no "minimum" distance to space them apart.
Sorry but it wont work to good on 120 as others stated you will have to run a ckt from your panel box I would use #10 Romax on 30 amp breaker if its a larger window unit it will run better on the larger gage wire
So is your question exactly what it says or what some of the people are speculating, that you are using the 110volt circuit to feed the a/c?? In the newest electrical code, you "shall" have(meaning do it or the job wont pass inspection) a 110volt service receptacle within 25 feet of the unit. I generally put them within10 feet so there is no minimum distance away from the a/c unit..they are fine right next to one another. If you are indeed asking a voltage drop question, you'll be fine if it's a residential application. If you are indeed trying to use 110 to power it, it will not work without a transformer which would cost you a rediculous amount of loot. One Answer says that you need to run a 12-3 which is not true at all. A 12/3 cable consists of 2 hot wires, a neutral and a ground. You only need 2 hots and a ground. As for wire size, you should check the fla nameplate. It will tell you the max overcurrent (breaker) size and possibly the wire size. For a 20 amp a/c you would use a 12/2 with ground. 30 amp, 10/2 with ground and 40amp you would use a 8/2 with ground. Make sure to color or tape the white wireblack or red at both ends so for future reference for you or another person know that it is a hot leg. Good Luck
It can be right beside it.
run a new wire to the box, preferably a #12 wire,it won"t work on a 110 volts.
