A/C is not cooling but the fan is running. What may be the matter?
Question:I don't know the brand of the a/c unit. The house is about ten years old.
Answers:
since you know the inside fan is running then possible problems are...1 no power circuit breaker or fuse is tripped...2 bad contactor...3 bad capacitor.low on freon if outside unit is running and no air coming out of vents in home ...
Could be any number of things from frozen up evaporator to tripped breaker for the compressor, control problems, leak in refrigerant, etc.
If your unit is an older one then it probably needs more freon. I had that same problem before. But again, a central air unit only last about 10~12 yrs, so be ready, you may need a whole new unit. Good luck!!
Probably low on freon. ~
you need freon
Dont just assume it is a "freon" problem, have you performed maintenence at all? if not your evaporator coil(indoor) may be iced up due to a dirty filter/coil, check a air register for signs of airflow. If airflow is there your problem is likely in the condensing unit, It's getting hot outside now so if your condensor coil(outdoor) has not been washed, you could be tripped on high head pressure safety, sometimes it is an automatic resetting switch, sometimes manual reset, depends on brand. Be sure to wash the condensor. Beyond that all you can really do is verify you have power to the outdoor unit, if so, call a service tech to troubleshoot for you, good luck with your ac!
All you can do is reset the mains power to the machine, restart the unit as normal and see if it runs again. If not, you need some help from a qualified A/C technician.
Tip: don't waste your time and money getting anyone who does not work on air conditioners for a living.
Good luck
you did not hook up thermostat the right way, whenever you change wires always label them, look at the print that came with the thermostat, and make sure that the new one is compatible to the old one.
