Garage door will only open from wall switch?

Question:Hi, I have a genie garage, less than 2 years old. Once while I was opening the door, a tree branch got caught in the wire and the wire ended up stretched. Since this, i have been unable to open/close the garage with the wireless remote, but I am still able to open/close the door with the wall switch. Genie has suggested the wire is damaged and to replace the wire. Can someone give me tips/ideas how to do this? THANKS very much...

Answers:
if the door is opening with the door switch, that means that the wire is okay, what you need to change is the batteries on your remote.

It's pretty simple, get a small roll of 18awg 2-conductor wire from the hardware store and check out your opener. Kill power to it and follow the wire. It should go to a set of screw terminals. Unscrew the old wire, strip the new wire back a bit and secure under the terminals. Follow the wire back to the switch and secure the wire under the terminals on the switch. Make sure the wire is secured to the wall and/or ceiling before you attempt to restore power and open the door. That way its not ripped out when the door opens. Restore power and test
It sounds like when the wire was stretched there was some damage done to the connection if not the component that is your ir receceiver. I first get a parts list to identify what is what then I would take it apart to check the connections and make sure that they were not pulled apart. If you have a sound connection(test it with a meter along with the visual inspection) then it would have to be a part. Sincen it is operating in the manual flip switch mode it is not the door itse3lf. That leaves your ir sensor. Good luck
OK all listen here simple fix, first off i don't know why there was a tree in your garage but anyhow, Genie openers have a switch on the top of there wall station which is called a lock switch and what that does is locks any transmitters out and will not operate the door. The light on the wall station should be lit if it isn't the lock is on OR the wires are reversed. When you push your transmitter button there should be a little red LED either on the front or back of the opener head itself that should light up showing that there is transmission. If it doesn't light up try replacing the batteries in the transmitter. E - mail me with questions if need to.
