My washing machine is very rattly during the very start and end of each spin cycle?
Question:I have a really good Zanussi ZWD1270W washer dryer, but it has developed a loud rattling noise recently. It occurs just as it starts to spin, and as it slows down to stop spinning.
It also does this, but not as bad, at the very beginning of the wash, just after it fills up with water, and does the first turn of the drum.
Is there anything i can do to fix it? I'm fussed enough to get someone out, its just annoying when i'm in the kitchen, and it rattles like this.
Apart from this glitch, it really is a great machine, it's just that someone must have overloaded it when i wasn't around.

You need to check that there isnt a bra wire or coin stuck somehwre out of sight before you decide to call anyone out.If it is not anything that is stuck then it may be the drum bearings. The bearings wouldnt go just from one overloaded wash, they wear away due to water getting into the protective seal around them. To check this, take the back of the washer and look at the bolt that holds the drum in place, if there is water marks around it then your drum bearings have gone. It usually costs around £50-60 to replace them.
Just give it a good kick ma'am
sounds like the ball bearings - not too expensive to have repaired
could be bearing problems and yer overload idea sounds good. obviously the person who overloaded done it intentionally as people ought to know that you should never overload a washing machine cos it *ucks them up
sounds like your clothes are unbalanced...spread them around evenly...or too heavy...try putting less in the machine at each load
If it is only at acceleration (beginning and end of a cycle) and less noticeably under heavy load (water) then I think it might be something in the drive mechanism. It sounds like it may be putting in too much torque and then getting it right after a bit of slippage. Sort of like flooring the gas and then popping the clutch in a car. Worthwhile, I think, to have it looked at by a technician.
Its probably just slightly out of balance! Most repair guys wont tell you that, they'll make up a load of technical jargon to tell you , then charge a fortune to fix it! Trust me, I know, I learnt the hard way!
Sounds like your bearings are failing. Get an estimate if you cant do it yourself. Haynes now do an excellent repair book for washing machines.
If the machine is out of level, or you overload it, or don't balance your wash (spread it out evenly) or all three, you will eventually ruin the bearings, and that is what has likely to have happened. Happy washing!
