Mice infestation in my ceiling?
Question:Someone tell me the best way to kill mice in this situation, without calling an exterminator:
They are running around the ceiling in my basement! The ceiling panels are removable, but when I smash the tiles in they stop running and cannot be found!
If I put mousetraps in the cieling, what is the best bait to use?
Any other suggestions?

I've used this brand before. What you do is buy three or four and put along the walls on the basement floor. The poison stays in the box. You just pull off a tab so there is an opening for the mice to get to the poison.
They are effective. I wouldn't bother putting them up in the ceiling. I suspect the mice come down and run around. If after two or three days if no bait is missing from the boxes then I would put them up on the ceiling tiles.
If you have small children or pets then you can get mouse poison in sealed plastic pouches. The mice or rats will chew through the plastic and eat the poison.
If you need the plastic pouches you can just buy the rat poison if the mouse poison isn't available.
Lots of traps (not poison) and peanut butter, they can't grab it and run, so they will settle down to munch, and wham!
go get traps but you will need poison too. The poisen is sold in little packets. They will die from the poisoin. the problem with traps is that most of the females will not go into the trap.
oh and get a cat :)
I use glue boards with a little peanut butter in the middle. They go for the bait and get stuck. Every couple of days throw the boards away. The dead mice will start to stink.
Snap traps also work well but they don't always snap and the mouse gets free food.
You also want to use poison. I get the grain bricks at the farm store, they last a long time and kill in one feeding.
The most important thing is to find where they are coming in. If you don't seal up the holes they will just keep coming in. They can fit through a hole as small as 1/4".
Look for concentrations of droppings to find the location they are entering from.
You also need to find where they are finding food from. They will not stay around if they don't have a food source. Check your food storage for chewed up boxes, bags etc.
first off the mice had to come in your home from somewhere. make sure all soffet vents are covered with screen or something that they can not escape. then you can throw poison into the attic unless you have pets then i would suggest maybe traps. make sure all holes near your basement are closed from the outside either way your home is going to stink like hell once they start dying off from whatever you put in the attic
Fact: Just 2 mice can generate over 5000 in a years time. (That would be children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and so on...) My advice is if there are more than one, call a professional. If you just want to put bait on a trap, use peanut butter, mice love the stuff.
