Plug socket in conservatory is warm when not in use and very hot when in use.?

Question:I have had the electrician around, who fitted it originally, and he has changed it, but is still warm. He says that its safe, but no other sockets in the house are warm, and never have been. Any helpful suggestions welcome.

Answers:
Yes get him back. There should be no heat at a socket. He realised there was a problem that's why he changed it the first time. There must be an explanation why this is showing heat even when not in use. I take it for granted when not in use the switch is off also.If he refuses to come back just explain that he is aware of the problem and if you have to call someone else out you will send him the bill.

check the obvious first. See if there is any source to heat it. i.e. a heating vent blowing on it or the sun shining directly on the outlet and plate. Next try cutting off all your breakers except the one to that outlet, unplug everything to that and other outlets that are on the same circut, go outside and look at your electrical meter. If it moves at all you have a short or a "Leak" of some kind. If this is the case, call the Electrition back.
Yes, I agree with with the first post, you should get the electrician back again. Tell him you are not satisfied.
Make sure the your appliances are switched on so they are hot.
It really is up to him to sort it out. He is the man on the spot and should be best able to advise you. If not, it's up to him to bring someone else in for a second opinion.
Presumably, he left you with an EIC (Electrical Installation Certificate). This shows the results of the tests he should have undertaken.
It might also give a clue as to what is causing the plugs to heat up.
Don't be fobbed off!
yeah thats true.
I disagree with the first and third answer. You should get a different electrician to look at it. Heat is a sign of loose wiring and can cause a fire.
If you are happy that its nothing to do with other heat source, i.e the sun shining on it (not that likely with our present weather) then i would get another Electrician round to check it, if he finds a fault, tell the first electrician and get him to pay your bill. After all he's had two goes at getting it right. and if there is a fault with the wiring you do run the risk of a fire.
