Why does our water butt sometimes smell?

Question:It is only rainwater and the water from the bathroom running into it. It seems okay when the hose is fixed and the water is running out as soon as it goes in, but as soon as the hose is off and it starts to fill, it immediately starts to smell.

Answers:
I had to laugh, I have never heard of a water butt before so I googled it! Sounds like it needs to be cleaned, maybe it's bacteria or extra minerals built up inside. Here's a link for you:

You might try putting bleach in it so the volume of water has a concentration of 10% bleach.
