Why does the stuff at the back of my fridge keep freezing?

Question:the temperature can be set to 1,2,3,4, or 5. i keep it at 4, surely even at 5 it shouldn't freeze - it is a fridge not a freezer

Answers:
that will be where the coolant is, so it is cooler, plus if your fridge is jammed full or you have one very full shelf then the air does not circulate and you get uneven temps.

You have a drip tray at the back yeah?

You cant put things right against the back of the fridge, you need to allow a gap for air travel up and down the back otherwise you will get stuff frozen
That's where the air is coldest, and you probably have an overstuffed fridge, so there is no airflow. There needs to be airflow so things are cooled evenly, and the fridge works at it's peak efficiency.
Take everything out of your fridge, clean it well and let the frozen stuff melt (plug it out while you're doing this). Then when all the icy stuff is gone, repack your fridge, this time making sure that you have about an inch or so of space between the items and the sides and back of the fridge.
If the things at the back are still freezing, then it's simply that your settings are too high - turn it down to three and see how you do.
Don't use the stuff that froze and re-froze though - dump it.
are you talking about the grille at the outside part of your fridge?

check freon pressure

have a technician do it for you. you can not DIY that
cause you've the same **** fridge as me
turn the damper down in the frezer section so that the amount of cold air coming from there is reduced, should be like colder/warmer wheel to select try that, if its an automatic damper it may be stuck open, Here is how it works: the compresor causes the freezer only to get cold, it gets down to 0 degrees in there, how does the fresh food section get its cold? from some freezer air that flows down into the bottom by way of a fan, If too much freezer compartment air gets down there then the milk will get ice in it,and the gumbo will be slushy, frozen watermelon aint too appetizing, what to do?
slow the flow of frigid air coming into fresh food compartment
reduce the size by setting the damper.now it may be that the temp thermostat is stuck but I doubt it.If you turn the tstat to the off position and it wont shut off then yeah its fried.
I reckon you've simply got it on too high a setting Donna. Turn it back to 2.1/2 - 3. The temperature in the fridge is generally accepted as should be about +5 degrees. If you can get a thermometer that will cover that low temperature range then you can adjust the setting until you achieve that temp. Leave 24hours between any changes of setting to recheck temperature.
