HELP! My Pool keeps growing green algae...?
Question:Every couple of days in this hot weather! I have checked the chlorine levels and raised them back up by adding extra shock, chlorine sticks, and my Ph had to be lowered, so I did that- It was blue for a couple of days, then WHAM! Green swamp looking cement pond. What am I doing wrong?
I have tried the clarifier, and Algecide... Yes I test regularly, but have not taken my water to the pool store in a few weeks- It is time- I know.
ALSO: Has the green algae been known to make people sick- stomach trouble, etc...? We think it may have late last week when it was still slightly murky and our little girl went swimming...(haha- we told her not to DRINK it...)
Water levels were really high, and I drained some off last week, but was hesitant to because we are in a severe drought (Georgia). Should we add fresh?

First thing you want to do is brush the walls and the bottom of the pool well. Algae "hides" from the chlorine on these surfaces and needs to be loosened for the chlorine to work effectively. Sounds like your water temperature may be very high. Keep the chlorine level a little higher than normal and use the pool often. Swimming in the pool helps to keep the circulation going. If the condition doesn't improve go to the pool store with a water sample.

OK here is what you do. clean your filter whatever type you have cartridge d.e. or sand if your pool has gotten green, then your filter will be in bad shape also. there is no way you can get around this
you have to add sodium dichlor to your pool. under normal conditions you would use 1 lb per 10,000 gallons of water once a week in your condition you will have to jump start the process with 5 or 6 lbs to get ahead of the algae. and run your pump 24 hrs a day, until your pool clears up.if you go to a pool store they will probably try to talk you out of the sodium dichlor. but do not let them the sodium dichlor is best when used in warm water like in the summer time. and you can swim right after you put it in under normal circumstances. do not put the chlorine tabs in your skimmer. it makes all parts of your skimmer brittle, this is caused from 50 % acid in the tablets after the algae is killed then you can brush your pool , if you do it before then you are just moving the algae around ! algecides are worthless.if you have to use the tablets then put them in a blue and white floater and toss them in your pool !
Keep your filter running 24/7 which will alleviate part of the problem. In hot weather chlorine evaporates out of the water quickly so check it every day
