How do I get my smoke detector to stop chirping when it's hard-wired to the electricity?
Question:My smoke detector began chirping at 4:27am today. Don't they just love doing that? So I've done a lot of researching on here, and everyone is saying to replace the batteries on my smoke detector, but I can't open up the detector itself. What's more is that it's hard-wired to the ceiling, except when I removed the smoke detector from the ceiling, it seems as if they were never really connected to begin with, so I don't know what I should do now.

They still have a backup battery. They would be worthless if the power went out wouldn't they? But trust me they all have batteries in them. Just try to take the thing apart as much as possible. And if it wasn't connected to begin with how could it be chirping? haha. Good luck. Maybe look up the model number online of that detector.
Oh this happened to me. Okay what you need to do is simply remove the smoke detector from the wall and disable it for a day or two. After that, place it back on the wall and if it keeps chirping, just take it off of the wall entirely. It should still go off if there's a fire though.
They are hard to open but need to reed on it to open and change the batteries.
Myth: Batteries are not needed if you have a hardwired smoke detector.
Fact: All smoke detectors should have a back-up battery. Electrical fires often knock out power to appliances, including a wired smoke detector. Also, during a storm, power outages are common. Unless your smoke detector has a back-up battery, it will not work. Reach up and snatch down the cover, a 9 volt battery will be need most likely. yer sposed to change battery every time daylight savings comes around they say.
Check your battery. It has gone bad. I have the same type of smoke detector and it is house powered but uses a battery in case of a power outage.
replace the battery.all my detectors are hard wired and i just replace the batteries the day we change the time. you know spring forward fall back.
Smoke detectors have a product life of 10 years, if you don't know how old yours is, it might be time to replace the unit. There are battery back-ups even in hard-wired units, this is what is causing the chirping.
