It depends what the stains are! If you have time to nip to the shops I have used stain devils and its worked every time!

You can use white vinager & water. Rub with a white towel in circular motions. This also works in sofas, specially light prints. Don't use any bleach products!
Waterless hand cleaner does a nice job... and it's cheap.
