My landlord changed the filters on my swamp cooler and now it seems to blow warm air--any ideas why or how2fix

Question:This is an old swamp cooler, but it seemed to work. Then my landlord switched the old excelsior filters for some new ones that are some synthetic, less thick. Maybe it's a coincidence, but any reason why the cooler doesn't seem to be cooling?

Answers:
Your landlord may have disonnected the power to the pump inside the cooler while he worked on it. He may have accidently loosened the power connector or water hose from the pump up to the distribution lines. He may have turned off the water feed to the cooler too.

If possible, you would need to take off one of the sides while it is running and observe what is going on inside. There should be a pump on the floor of the unit and there should be about 3" of water in the bottom along with it. If there is no water, check that the float valve is not obstructed inside the tub area and make sure the water line feeding the unit is connected and the valve is open where the water is fed into the line.

There should also be a hose that is attached to the top of the pump and connected to some distribution lines at the top. There is also a power cord that goes from the pump up to a connector in an upper corner inside the cooler, make sure they are all plugged in.

If you don't want to, or can't, check this yourself, then call your landlord and tell him of the problem, I'm sure he will know exactly what needs to be done and get it corrected for you quickly. It's all pretty simple and he shouldn't have a problem with fixing it for you right away.

Also, I've tried the synthetic mats and they don't seem to work as well as the simple pine ones. It's possible they may not be thick enough to catch the water properly, but you would have to take off one of the sides to see what is happening along the other ones to be sure.

Make sure there is water going through the filters..

If so ask hime to replace the new ones with the same type he took out.

Good Luck
OK yourlandlord is repsonsible for this problem not you

The water pump needs to get the water to the filter. Usually aspen chips or ticking is used, a synthetic filter shouldn't make much difference. No water circulating means you are going to be running the blower a whole lot more then needed and not get much cool air.
