How to rid of algae in a above ground swimming pool??
Question:I have just bought a home with a 40" above ground pool. The pool had not been maintained or covered in almost 2 years. The algae, plant life and bug life seems to be a task that never ends. I have worked for three days straight empting the water out, scanning the algae, leaves and bugs. However the project seems to only be slightly less work.
I have not used any chemicals yet, I just dont know where to start. ( If at all possible i would rather use enviromentally safe products.) I have never owned a pool, and my family says it will just be a money pit. Suggestions and helpful hints would be wonderous!
Also if any one has tips on how to rid of the white ring around the pool liner after the water was drained, it would be awesome.

Drop me a line at robandliz1992@yahoo.com and we'll get you up and running as inexpensively as possible. If possible please include the gallon size of the pool (if you know it), the filtration system, chlorination system, or pictures of the above. What is the depth of the pool?
If you haven't drained the pool completely then STOP NOW!!! Never drain a pool completely or you will run the risk of having to replace the liner as they rarely stretch back into shape after a couple years.
I don`t like using chemicals in our pool either . I`ll get to that in a minute though. We had the same problem. We bought a house with a pool and did not close it correctly, the next season it was awful !!. Green with algea and leaves all in it. First you will have to use shock in it and alot of it. Several times most likely if it is as bad as you say. Then get your ph right. Pool places will kill you on this , go to the co-op and buy baking soda (ash). works great it is the same thing as what the pool places call ph increaser but 1/4 the price. Been using it for years. Then you will have to use algeaside a couple times maybe even have to shock it again. Your water should be getting clear by now.Put some stabelizer in it that makes it hold the chlorine and PH so your not constantley adding it. Your PH has to be correct for most any of these chems to work. READ THE BOTTLES they explain well how to add any of this stuff. Some you add through the skimmer some are thrown out into the water. Use on recirculate not filter for most if you have that setting on your pump. Now for the best part once you get it clean the expensive part is over. We bought this thing called a floatron. My husband works with some people that have one and they told us about them. It floats in your water (about the size of a frisbee) and with a minute solar electrical charge it kills any bacteria or algea so it can no longer live in the water. It cost 269.00 but we no longer use any chems ALL YEAR !.It pays for itself , We spent over 400 bucks a year using the chems the pool places sell you. You do need chlorine tablets but 1/8 of what you would normally use. Maybe 1 or 2 a week and that`s just to get rid of suntan oils etc... in the water.. WE LOVE IT. our water is clearer than it has ever been with chems and it is healthy. Call 731-742-2166 that`s where I ordered mine from like I said 269. no shipping and Handling. I got mine the very next day in the mail. If nothing else talk to them and listen what they have to say. The Floatron was designed by nasa.
