How to stop leaking roof at my home?

Do you know the location of the leak?Is it a flat roof,pitched roof?Asphalt,tile or wood shake?A flat roof you would use tar.A asphalt pitched roof you could find the leak and take out about 3-4 sq. feet from center of leak.You have to be careful especially with an older roof.If the leak is toward the peak you could temp. and use a large tarp to cover the leak until you ca get it fixed perm.Hope it works out for you.
You can buy a bucket or roof tar to spread over it untill you can have the roof replaced or fixed by a professional. You can buy it at any home depot Goodluck!
If you are tight for money maybe only replace the part that is leaking. Another alternative, I heard my grandfather used tar and it stopped the leaking.
One thing to take in mind. If you have leaves that fall on top of the roof you need to sweep them away. Leaves rot and they cause a pile up and rot into your roof causing it to leak.
well to start off you have to inspect the roof to see where the leak is . also once you find the leak then you have to see how bad the roof section is. also how old is the roof .cause once the wood under the covering gets bad you will have to replace that . so have it inspected and then go from there it is really not a diy protect you can do in a day
