Ceiling fan noise.. got an easy fix??
Question:It is simple, but I recently moved into a duplex with annoyingly loud ceiling fans and was wondering if there is a quick fix that is safe, like maybe some WD40..? I don't know.
It sounds like bearings but I'm not going to replace these things myself. If anyone has some insight I would appreciate it.
Answers:
sounds like the bearings most are sealed but some wd-40 on the shaft might help for a while as there are 2 bearing one at the top and one at the bottom of the fan in most case's its time to replace repairing will cost more than a new fan good luck
you could try and spray a bit in there but getting it in the bearing is difficult because of its location. basically they have probably been used excessively and are worn out probably will need to just replace them. gl with them
Difficult since you didn't describe the noise. However, it may be just running sounds transmitted to the ceiling. Go to a hardware store and get some 1/8" rubber (preferred) or soft plastic type sheeting; you'll need only about 4" square. Take the fan down. Cut the rubber to size so it can be installed between the mounting bracket and the ceiling box. Replace the bracket and reinstall the fan. Don't get shocked.
You can try this and that but replacement is what will fix the situation.
If it's a clicking sound that increases/decreases with fan speed....one of the wire nut connectors may have shifted in the fan housing and is clicking against the housing. If that sounds like a possibility, turn off the fan...rotate by hand and see if you can isolate in what area the click seems to be coming from. You can use a knife or thin screwdriver to tease the connector back deeper into the housing...WITH THE POWER OFF! You can usually find a slot somewhere in the housing to access it through.
Good luck
