Drip from washing machine connection?

Question:We're going on hol and don't want the expense of getting in a plumber before we go - where is the mains water on/off switch, usually, located in houses? We've got a combi boiler if that makes a difference.

Answers:
julie, have you tried to tighten the hose? if it is already tight you need a new rubber washer or a new hose.to stop the water take the screw out that holds the blue "switch" on, once that is removed pull off "switch" under that is a brass valve. with a pair of pliers turn the brass bit until it points up and down.this turns off the water.failing that you will need to turn off main valve normally under the kitchen sink. have a nice hol.

Usually under the kitchen sink.
in my experience it is best to get an older sensible man like your Dad to fix it. Someone who rreally knnows what is wrong and will do a decent job, not someone who has no clue but thinks he knows and is hoping to get a date.
Most washing machine connections have their own taps so you can switch the water off and pull the washine machine out etc.

If it's dripping from where the pipe joins the washing machine then that just needs a new washer costing 10p.

Additional:
OK, you're going to need to turn the mains water off. It *could* be outside in the pavement, it could be under the kitchen sink, it could be *anywhere* really. All houses are different.

Go and buy a new washing machine tap, and new washer for the blue hose so you have the parts ready. Total cost about £3.

I hope you sort it. This shouldn't warrant the expense of a plumber.
it will be where your boiler is
Try tightening the connection by screwing the blue or red fitting that is attached to your machine by turning it clockwise. The stop c*ck is sometimes found in the down stairs toilet or in sink unit or in the kitchen .
unscrew hose(gold/silver) cap, replace washer.
Or Duct Tape Over Leak Area

Turn off your water at the mains and go off on holiday. Sort it out when you get back. I always turn off the water & electric when I go away, piece of mind.
You need to find the rising mains, its impossible to say where it will be, as i don't know your property, but if you start in the kitchen, then maybe a downstairs loo. you are looking for a tap coming up through the floor (that's if you in a house, and not a flat) turn this tap clockwise, then turn on one of your cold taps, and see if the water is running. The chance's are the blue hose on your washing machine just needs tightening, and a pair of grips will solve the problem, these hose's do tend to vibrate loose with movement from the washer. have a nice holiday.
