Can anyone tell me how to get to the heating element on a general electric dryer?

Answers:
Depending on the age. the older ones are as follows.
Unplug. Open dryer door. Look under upper lip , remove 3 Phillips screws, lift top. Lean top back against wall carefully. Look down to door switch on left, mark and pull door switch wires. There is 1 screw on the upper left and 1 to the right. Loosen,; now get down at floor level; remove screws there at bottom. Take screws off at top and remove door. Now you are looking at a drum and on the drum you see the belt; get down at floor level and look at how belt goes around pulley( belt tension device) Look REAL good, because its tricky! Take belt off pulley. Look inside drum/tub/ There is a silver cap in the center. Remove with screw driver. Now remove screw holding tub to center. Remove tub. now you can see elements. Check them visually first and do not touch ( oil on your hands can break element) if they look good , test them with volt-ohm meter for continuity. O,k? if not , go to appliance repair shop with model number and get "restring" kit. Remember to pre-stretch elements before you guild them into insulators; if any insulators are broken you must replace.
Now; ready to call an appliance repairman? no ? Reassemble and test.
Taking off the back is the standard method.

In general, you remove the back cover by taking out the screws. In the air intake you should see an electrical harness with a plug in it. Remove the plug and there is likely a single screw holding in the element. Remove the screw, pull the element out.
