Why do I have to hold the handle down on my toilet for it to completely flush?
Question:This toilet flushes okay as long as you hold the handle down until the flush is complete. Why is that and what can I do to fix it? Thanks!!

When you press down the handle, it pulls the rubber plunger up from the bottom of the tank, releasing the water to the stool. If the plunger doesn't go up high enough, it goes abck down as soon as you let go.
To fix this, take the top off your tank and you should see a chain connecting the handle with the plunger. Mak the chain a little shorter and try it. You should be able to test it a few times with the cover off until you get a good test.
You replace it with an automatic toilet. Is it available in your place? My toilet opens its cover when a person gets inside. After you pee or excrete something, you only need to press the button at the side (at your choice because there are three types of it) for the water to wash your a.s.s. You may use a tissue to wipe ur as.s. or just press another button to dry it out. Once you stand up, it will automatically flush itself. Get out from the door and the cover of the toilet bowl will automatically close again. How's that?
i dont want to insult you but some of the older type toilets are just bad and all toilets are not the same quality. you need to adjust the chain thats attaced to your flapper inside the bowl of your toilet. however it more than likely a temporary fix. investing in a better toilet will be better in the long run.
if it has a flapper, it was installed incorrectly.remove tank lid, see if round rubber is still connected to flapper,it will go over overflow tube. the way it should be is to cut round part off and attach flapper to "ears" on side of flushvalve. hope that helps
Remove the tank lid and flush. watch the flapper at the bottom of the tank. It should stay up until almost all the water is gone from the tank. This is controlled by the chain/strap that lifts the flapper. Shorten up the chain until the flapper "just" seals and your problem should be corrected.
